State of paths

First published in Letters

I WENT for a bike ride with my grandchildren along the canal from Risca to Fourteen locks. It’s great along the Caerphilly area as the banks are well maintained and there is a smooth tow path. Then we hit the boundary with Newport and what a difference! A rough tow path and the banks and canal are in a terrible state. Come on, Newport City Council, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

That wasn't the towpath. That was Chepstow Road. Residents of Newport gave up tying to decide where the tarmacadam stops and the weeds start. In St. Julian's there are weeds almost 20 inches high along boundary walls and in gutters. I think Newport Council Streetscene department has employed Mother Nature as a Director.

Is the Canal path Newport Councils responsibility? I thought it was looked after by another body, I may be mistaken though.

NCC should resurface the entire length of the SDR and a lot of Chepstow road before they do anything else.
