I am sad to hear of the possible closure of Caerleon College.
This lovely old building stands as a landmark for the village, which taught thousands to become teachers.
Great history and not sure if the building is listed.
It gives a unique character to the village and Newport.
Whatever reasons the authorities give, it appears to me that their main agenda was to build up their other sites like Treforest.
All at the expense of Caerleon where, in particular, there is a superb photographic and art faculty.
Yesterday, during a short visit, I noted many casual tourists wandering around, a few from Canada and Western Australia.
Each asked about the college.
There are plenty of new projects on the way for more houses and hotels.
I hope whatever becomes, this grand old building is retained for some sensible non-housing use which fits in with the area’s scenery.
