END of an era? I write with some sadness to report that Risca Circuits is being forced to move from their 35 year base of Risca Leisure Centre due to a policy now being enforced by Caerphilly Borough Council that states all instructor-led classes at peak times must be available to leisure centre members.

What this actually equates to is Risca Leisure Centre taking over the revenue (but not the teaching - they’re happy that our instructor remains!) of the said club. Might that be because our club regularly attracts 30 to 50 attendees and would generate a considerable income for CBC?

Does it not matter that our club, which is run by members of the local community for members of the local community, promotes exercise in a fun setting with a social side too, has been forced out of our home so that CBC can financially benefit from a club that was started 35 years ago by inspiring characters from our community? Risca Rugby Club will be our new home, at least they’re happy to recognise and support a local club for the community, who want to run it on their terms.
