ON A WET and windy day in Newport’s Commercial Street recently, I noticed a lady walking ahead of me and deliberately dropping bird-seed which attracted great numbers of pigeons as she progressed towards High Street like the Pied Piper!
I decided not to make a citizen’s arrest and thought that the CCTV cameras would spot her and a police officer, PCSO or warden would appear, but no joy!
I wonder if the centre’s businesses, shops etc are concerned about the mess, also caused by other pigeon-feeders, being spread into their premises including the indoor market and Newport buses.
The centre has worsened since the two smartly dressed and efficient wardens (or rangers) were removed from patrolling the shopping areas.
Where are they now? We need them back!
