IT’S GREAT news that our Labour-led Welsh Government is investing an extra £6.9 million in its excellent Flying Start scheme which helps young children and their families in Wales’s most deprived communities.
The scheme’s free childcare for two to three-year-olds, health visiting service, parenting programmes and help with early language development benefit many of our most disadvantaged families.
It’s also welcome that some of the extra cash will be targeted at a Flying Start scheme in Blackwood.
Unfortunately, there are several areas of real deprivation here in Islwyn – including Argoed, Blackwood, Cefn Fforest, Pantside, Penllwyn, Risca and Trinant – so action like this by Welsh Government, together with the ongoing work by our Labour-led Caerphilly Council, will make a positive difference for many in Islwyn.
Cllr Gez Kirby, Pontllanfraith
