YESTERDAY, again, it took nearly 20 minutes just to travel from Belle Vue Lane to the entrance of the Royal Gwent hospital because cars were queueing for non-existent parking spaces inside the hospital grounds, causing gridlock.

Surely someone at the civic centre must be aware of this daily problem that brings one of the city’s major roads to a virtual standstill. Are there any plans to do anything about it as neither the police or hospital security seem to be concerned? To me, a simple layman, the answer is obvious.

Reduce the width of the pedestrian island to allow two lanes of traffic to pass, thus allowing people with no business at the hospital to proceed unhindered.
