WILL it be third time lucky for Newport City Labour Council’s plan for 250 homes, originally for 94 houses and 48 apartments along the Riverfront, as reported by Becky Carr in the Argus issue on Tuesday, February 3 – the two former builders having pulled out?
In addition to the chemical contamination on the site, wildlife destruction, disruption and filth for adjacent and already-occupied streets, we can expect a resulting massive increase in traffic congestion and air pollution in the Caerleon Road areas.
We don’t need surveys and statistics to see health and safety, especially that of our children and senior citizens, is already at greater risk than ever on our roads and residential streets – notably Bank Street, used as the main “horrendous” school route as in the original school and housing Private Finance Initiative plan over ten years ago.
Maybe we can count on our local Welsh MPs, AMs and Labour Councillors to question and object to the impact on Newport’s environment.
