IT’S BAD enough walking through Newport town to see litter everywhere, but there is a more-serious problem with the amount of chewing gum. To think that every piece has been spatit out by thoughtless individuals. Is it so hard to wait until they pass a bin to dispose of it?
There should be a heavy fine for anyone caught spitting out chewing gum, because it’s much more costly to remove it than clearing litter.
Manufacturers of gum should part fund the cost of its removal and work towards making gum that doesn’t stick, so it can be swept up with the other detritus on our streets.
