THERE was a very interesting documentary on the television last month about the Chartist uprising which was introduced by Michael Sheen.
He began by visiting some of the valley towns before ending up in Newport, where he stood in front of the Westgate Hotel.
This iconic hotel which played a huge part in the Chartist uprising was boarded up. An even sadder sight was the footage of the Chartist mural being smashed up and dispersed of.
I hope Newport council are proud of themselves.
