MR GRIFFITHS, AM for Newport East, is upset and considers Starbucks coffee shop disrespectful for putting their rubbish, which is always bagged up properly, near the Chartist statues.

Has he not been in the city centre in the late evening when the pub crawlers vomit and urinate over them and put cones on them? Does he not go into the city centre in the day time when people sit on the steps around them eating and drinking, feeding the pigeons and leaving their empty cans, plastic bottles and food cartons behind for cleaners to come along and tidy up?

If not, he should, and if the statues are so precious, why has the council not put railings around them or covered them? This man is supposed to represent Newport East, not West – that is Dame Rosemary Butler’s patch.

Mr Griffiths, worry about the St Julians ward where green bins are left out in the streets overflowing with rubbish. Bins and cardboard bags are put out on the wrong days and people put food in plastic bags and leave them in the streets for animals to tear apart. The people who do this are disrespectful to their neighbours who struggle to keep the roads clean and tidy, take care with their recycling and take pride in their area.

St Julians is one of the worst wards for recycling. At least Starbucks keep their area clean and tidy.
