IN JEN Mills' article: ‘No need for new county hall’ (14th July 14, 2015), the public services minister, Leighton Andrews, is alleged to have said, that he was not sure why any newly organised local government should need a new super county hall. The minister is also alleged to have said that in the era of digital communication it should be feasible for local authorities to order their office arrangements via the new technologies. I have expressed a similar view in the South Wales Argus and the Western Mail over the plast couple of years. The proposed new super authorities must not become “ injun reservations”. The proposed new authorities should be given an equitable share of any development funding for infrastructure and regeneration programsprogrammes. In the 21st century, it should not be necessary for a large percentage of the workforce to have to spend half their time and wages on commuting to work. The productivity of the UK in general would increase considerably if workplaces (offices and small technical companies) were distributed and closer to communities outside Cardiff.
