WHILE the taxpayers of Blaenau Gwent are still reeling from the £2.5 million cost of the world’s shortest funicular railway, which broke down as soon as it was opened, Blaenau Gwent Council’s department of profligate waste has come up with yet another way of wasting millions of pounds of our taxes!. They have decided to replace the current recycling system with the latest big idea -– the Noddy box trolley. Once again, no consideration whatsoever has been given to the practicality or public health and safety of this vanity project. Where are we supposed to store this trolley? Unlike the pampered executives who dream up these hare -brained schemes, the vast majority of the people in the borough do not have large front drives and detached garages, but have to either lug these things up or down steps, or leave them out on the public road where they will be interfered with by the local hooligans. Another fundamental flaw is the problem of what to do when there is too much material to go in the box. At least with the current bag- based system, a second bag can be used. And what of the cost? Not only will every house in the borough have to be equipped with these things, but council vehicles will have to be changed to accommodate the new system. This will cost a fortune –- and this in the borough which claims it cannot even afford to maintain a public convenience in the main town centre, let alone fix potholes in the roads or carry out weed or rodent control, and who have cut other public services to the point of collapse!. Do these pampered executives have nothing better to do than dream up new ways to waste taxpayers' money? Do their councillor bosses authorise these lunatic projects in their sleep? Judging by this latest madness, the sooner local government reorganisation is forced on this borough and we can eliminate the dead wood in the management, the better.
