MS SUE Griffiths says it’s “disgusting [that] Caerphilly Council want people to be kept in the dark over the festive season”.
I absolutely agree it’s a shame that Caerphilly Council has reluctantly been forced to end funding for Christmas lights across our county borough.
But Ms Griffiths may have been misled by some nationalist town councillors into believing that the blame for this cut rests with our Labour-led Caerphilly Council.
In fact, the cuts being made are the responsibility of the Tory Westminster government, which has made swinging cuts to our Welsh Government’s (and thus Welsh councils’) budgets.
And despite Labour’s calling on Plaid Cymru to propose alternative cuts to our council’s services so we can save the Christmas lights, nationalist councillors have (again) abjectly failed to deliver.
Our Labour-led Caerphilly Council believes that protecting essential services for the most vulnerable in our community must be our priority.
