I WRITE to complain very strongly about the decision made by Newport Bus to not include the 26A/C St Julians buses amongst those that are to depart from Friars Walk.
St Julians buses leave the Market Square bus station at 30 minute intervals which means that if passengers are unfortunate to just miss a bus, they have 30 minutes to wait for the next one in a freezing cold, filthy wind tunnel which some have the audacity to claim to be a bus station.
Many elderly people use this service.
Most of the buses leaving the Friars Walk bus station leave at much shorter intervals than those which will be departing from Market Square so their waiting time would be much shorter.
Why wasn’t adequate provision made for all Newport Transport buses to depart from Friars Walk?
I have been told that the decision on which buses depart from where was based on the area served.
This is rubbish as the Caerleon buses which travel the same route as the St Julians buses will depart from Friars Walk.
I believe that the decision was based more on the passengers who are less likely to complain about this than anything else.
I would therefore urge everyone who uses the 26A/C buses to contact NT, Bus Users Cymru, their local councillors and AM to express their views on this.
Do not allow Newport Transport to get away with this without a fight.
Cardiff buses could continue to run from Market Square to allow for the St Julians buses to depart from Friars Walk!
