HOW can so much money be spent on a town to end up more depressing than before the work started?
An extraordinary amount of money granted to develop Abertillery town to safeguard and create jobs and its ended up almost a no-go area, you can’t get your goods to the shops, customers have the most unsuitable short-term parking, it appears the bulk of the money was spent on the church.
You then have a ‘bilious blue’ building adjacent to the foundry bridge facing another stone church still under redevelopment. What a ridiculous contrast.
We then have what appears to be hypodermic needles at the far end of the foundry bridge supposedly to commemorate the mines in Abertillery. What would the old miners think? It’s pathetic and disrespectful. Surely the miners or miners families should have been consulted.
So we now have a dead town with two churches, no business, no shoppers, no jobs and no hope. What a waste of money. It’s a pity the Conservatives are not in charge to give business priority to create more jobs and bring life to Abertillery.
I think there should be a public inquiry into how the town has turned out like this.
