THE excellent and colourful “picture of the day”(Argus 27.4.16) by Chris Tinsley, showing two red phone-boxes on Agincourt Square in the town of Monmouth, puts the City of Newport to shame.
Not only are these phone-boxes clean and maintained, but one also has a defibrillator installed inside.
Newport’s public phone-boxes are filthy and damaged (Newport vandals are allowed to win again!).
Three basic (not red) phone-boxes in Caerleon Road’s busy shopping area are a mess and in a decrepit state and a poor advert for BT Telecommunications, Newport City and Greggs Bakery who advertise on these boxes.
Grass and weeds are growing in these public facilities - maybe an entry in the Wales in Bloom competition?!
