IS NEWPORT a city or a town? With the burst water-main pipe on Caerleon Road, Newport (Argus 5.7.16), our diverted St Julians no.10 bus took us towards the city centre, along the scenic route via Heidenheim Drive and I noticed a road sign, just before Sainsbury’s entrance indicating “Town Centre (1m). Motorway M4 West. Cardiff.”
I could not picture a “town” 1 mile from Sainsbury’s, so obviously like the many misleading bi-lingual road signs around Newport, the confusion continues.
Waiting at Belle Vue Lane bus-stop for my return trip to the centre, I observed how clear and noticeable the road markings (English and Welsh), yellow lines, bus-stop, speed-limit signs etc. appeared on Cardiff Road. I wondered why the road-markings including pedestrian crossings etc. on Caerleon Road are not up to standard?
The Newport City Streetscene Highways Dept., Lawmakers and Planners need to pull their sleeves up and do a proper job!
