I READ Shaun Maguire’s letter this week concerning Newport Council’s lack of interest in celebrating WW1. I am not sure what Shaun has in mind but as normal, the annual Remembrance Day takes place and ex-seamen have a parade at the Merchant Navy Memorial on Gilligan’s Island.
I am sure that both the losses are taken into account. I notice also the SWA has a daily feature on WW1, which provides information on important events.
There was also a Ypres memorial, and of course, the Tubby Lynton Memorial is near the Riverfront.
Some people would like to forget these events, but I am wondering what Shaun expects the council to do. Perhaps he could make a few suggestions.
