AS A LONGSTANDING daily reader of the Argus and occasional contributor to the letters page, I would like to register my disappointment on your coverage of the National Eisteddfod.
The daily reportage for the entire week consisted largely of photographs, mostly crowd/visitor pictures.
Considering it is such a major event in the Welsh calendar, and that it was 100 years or thereabouts since it was in Abergavenny, I felt the coverage you afforded it was minimal to say the least.
For instance it would have been appropriate to fully print a list of the day’s prizewinners (first, second and third) each day and even more obvious to print a list and times of events for that day.
I realise that pictures are necessary to create interest.
That said, I also feel that the converse of that applies when the show comes south east, from the Heartland areas such as Ceredigion, Gwynedd and Meirionydd, and it is more often than not evidenced by the winners, who by and large hail from those Heartland areas.
My point is therefore, the more the language is used, the more confident we’ll feel maybe in competition when the Eisteddfod comes south again.
I’d just like to say that I am not a Welsh speaker.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We covered every day of the Eisteddfod with a reporter and photographer on site throughour the festival.
I saw little point in running lists of prize winners or events as they would not have been of interest to many of our readers and were readily available on the Eisteddfod website.
I’m sorry you were unhappy with our coverage, which has been praised by the event organisers.
