I HAVE no desire to become involved in the debate between Reverend Jenny Wigley and Terry Banfield, but I would like to comment on his last paragraph.
True repentance requires a belief in “the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ” (Acts 8:12). What is then required is repentance, that is, a complete change in our way of thinking and behaving.
The man who preached the Gospel to me spoke of a God who is active in history, a God who gives prophecies that are fulfilled (the evidence is on my bookshelves), and who requires an amendment of life. He also spoke of a God who gives “great and precious promises”, promises relating to the gifts that he has laid up for his children.
I embraced this, and have found that I am all the better for it.
Of course humanity is sinful by nature, and of course, the creator is quite right to demand an acknowledgement in return for his forgiveness.
By all means let Mr Banfield continue his crusade against God and his revealed word, and by all means let him pour scorn on believers, but could he please not engage in cheap generalisations and shoddy sarcasm.
