WHICH came first the tree or the signpost? On Cardiff Road, Newport between lower Belle Vue Lane and a Newport City Council bus shelter I noticed a signpost with a red background and white letters indicating “Hospital & A&E”ahead for traffic moving towards the hospital entrance. Unfortunately, the sign’s information is obliterated by a few trees and obviously oncoming motorists are unable to read the warning, adding to the danger of speeding traffic on this stretch of road alongside the Royal Gwent Hospital. As Newport City Council will try to tell us there are no funds, could this be a job for Special Branch Police?
