A COUPLE of years ago, when the powers that be, decided to move the final venue for the motorbikes that formed the “Hogging the Bridge” cavalcade from Chepstow Town Centre to the racecourse, outside of the town, I made my feeling known via your newspaper.
I was not amused that an event that brought business to the town and an event that was supported by most of the town’s shops, pubs and restaurants was snatched away using a fairly feeble “health and safety” excuse.
So you can imagine my delight this last Sunday, when, on returning to my Chepstow home following a trip to Abergavenny, that I drove through the town and saw hundreds of bikers supporting the local establishments, early in the afternoon, having presumably spurned the new venue. Seeing the myriad of motorbikes and folks enjoying their afternoon was a wonderful sight.
I then woke up on Monday morning to a second delight – it would appear that I was not the only one pleased.
On Facebook a petition had been started to bring back Hogging the Bridge bikers back to their rightful place.
I willingly signed the petition, as did another 500-plus people that day and I urge other folks to log onto “change.org” and sign the petition and read the true story about the girl that was hit by a biker, written by that biker. Bring back the bikes to Chepstow Town.
