THE de-selection of serving Labour councillors is an ominous sign of the growing influence of the far left in the selection of candidates. Councillors in Cardiff, Newport and Bridgend have been deselected for not following party diktats or for disobeying the whip.
The first duty of councillors is to stand up for the people who voted them in. Corbyn’s Labour Party is only interested in choosing candidates who will blindly follow party diktats without question, as party loyalty is all.
Questions and scrutiny are seen as disloyalty and those who question must be purged and demonised.
The people want councillors who speak up for them and voice their concerns, while Labour want councillors who will blindly follow without question and those who challenge will be purged.
