ON READING about the autumn statement I was astonished to read that they intend to give £7.9 million to rescue a privately owned 57 roomed palace, whilst 55,000 families are homeless. This is insane, it wouldn’t be so bad if they intended to house some homeless families in it would it. Presumably its because Wentworth Woodhouse used to be the home of Lord Rockingham ex prime minister and has an interesting history, which they assume could become a tourist attraction in the future in the north of England. Even if this did happen presumably it will be the owners who will profit from this and not the tax payers, who could perhaps profit indirectly from tourism.
What a waste of money this is.
