SINCE when was Copeland a Labour stronghold? It was in a steady decline since 2001...disillusionment and alienation set in long before Corbyn became leader. Copeland is highly untypical, with over 10000 workers in or allied to, the nuclear industry, with a history of rather unpleasant right wing pro-nuclear Labour MPs. The Tories played the fear card knowing Corbyns preference for non-nuclear, but by ditching Trident could afford all those workers an early retirement offer and still have change. Corbyn is the only leader apart from the communist party to show an alternative programme to blind austerity and neoliberalism. Self styled “socialists” Plaid and SNP are wedded to the status quo, like New Labour (new war) which locked Labour into inexorable decline by championing city profiteering, self enrichment, privatisation is best,(rigged) economic policies, anti-union prejudice, planned eradication of council housing, and a succession of illegal overseas invasions and war, and the parliamentary road to socialism does not exist, that door has been firmly slammed and welded up.
