ON THE subject of revamping Pill, it strikes me that one of the most interesting venues in Pill was Jan and Sally Preece’ Pill Heritage Centre.

To add to its intrinsic interest, excellent cuisine was available cooked by either Jan or his charming wife Sally.

I once took a relative from the east of England to see the Transporter Bridge, after which I took him to eat at the centre.

This chap was a company manager who was used to eating at some of the top establishments in his home city. He was not only fascinated with the exhibits, but confessed himself well satisfied with the meal.

Also, I once met some Canadians who had just visited the centre and who were thrilled with it.

Why did this centre close? I assume that it had something to do with finance, and the question in my mind is, could not the city council have taken some interest in it? If money had been provided to brighten up its exterior and advertise it, who knows what the result might have been!

In my pipe dreams I see an advertisement at the Transport Bridge gates pointing to the centre. Well, it is too late now, but thank you Jan and Sally for your selfless endeavour.
