NORMAN Plaisted complains about the fly-tipping and mess left behind by “travellers” and the cost to Newport city council, in clearing it up.

I don’t know whether Mr Plaisted walks around Victoria very often, but it is, without exception, the dirtiest ward in the city.

Yes, travellers do leave a mess behind them, which is unforgivable, but let’s not run away with the idea that Newport people are somehow paragons of cleanliness.

The Lib Dems have worked in Victoria, unpaid, since 2012.

They regularly report infringements to the council and the council, to be fair, shifts household furniture, white goods and general detritus that litter louts are too lazy to clear themselves, or take to the tip.
The cost of removing fly-tipped rubbish which is leading to an increase in vermin, costs the authority nearly £1 million a year. This is not all caused by travellers.

Mr Plaisted has two Labour councillors representing his ward. Maybe they could fix up some “clean up” days.

It’s good to get the community working together, and Maindee is a disgrace.
