I USUALLY drive past the Heritage centre with a mixture of warmth and regret.

Having read Jan Preece’s letter I will now add anger to my feelings.
There were those who were prepared to purchase the building but were refused.

To what purpose? We may ask as we now look at its derelict condition.
The words of Mr Bumble come to mind regarding those responsible for this refusal.

One wonders whether what Jan and Sally had achieved resulted in some jealousy on the part of those who had it within their power to enhance and publicise the centre and who refused.

Well Jan, do you recall the whalebone corset that was donated?

In puckish mood I suggested that a competition might be held to see who could get it on in the quickest time.

Not to be outdone, Jan suggested that it should be who could get it off in the quickest time!

Happy moments, happy feelings, all brought to an end by what seems to a mindless, heartless attitude on the part of those who could have done so much to help and refused.

Hold your head up Jan. You and all those involved made a difference, and I am one who will never forget it.
