BACK in heady days when the Welsh Assembly was first established the Labour party promised to deliver a rail link into Newport from Ebbw Vale. The people of Islwyn and Ebbw Vale have had 20 years of broken promise, and no rail link, while the assembly has poured hundreds of millions of pounds into Cardiff.

The link to Newport will help regenerate the Islwyn valley and take cars off the roads reducing congestion and improving air quality.

I note that the assembly are happy to spend millions on a new section of M4 that will destroy an area of beauty and simply move congestion and not solve it. Can any of our esteemed assembly members tell the people when the rail link will be completed, or will we be treated to more yet more promise and platitudes.
