TWENTY years ago, when the Welsh Assembly was born, it felt like a new era, where the people of Wales would gain a voice to determine their own future. Now it feels like a huge backward step, a return to the time when money and power decided housing policy.

Caerphilly’s Local Development Plan was rejected last year, and since then the developers have moved in like circling vultures.

The planning decisions of our democratically elected Caerphilly councillors are being overturned time after time by the assembly member for the environment, and our countryside is threatened with obliteration.

The assembly is our voice, and our message is clear. Stop implementing the Tory governments discredited austerity policies, and put a proper plan in place to protect our countryside, our green spaces and our communities for our children’s future.
