YOUR page two article in today’s Argus about the empty buildings in Baneswell reminded me of the time when working with the Bettws food bank a few years ago when I asked the Newport city council if we could use one of the two nurseries in Don Close to expand our work on the estate.
The council put up so many hurdles that it was impossible to get a straight answer as to what they would let us do, or if we could even have a building. We just gave up the idea.
It seems this council cannot or do not want to help any local charities to make life better for the local people unless they can make money out of it.
