I WOULD never deny the right of free speech or an individuals right to correspond with the Argus letters page but, of the four published, January 15 2018, two were from three elected councillors. Why?

Were their opinions not deemed important enough to be voiced in council chambers or the media’s political columns?

Maybe it’s a way of “putting it out there” but off the record.

Are surgeries so poorly attend there is a need of greater publicity? To help the Argus could, should, publish a monthly time and place table of all councillor’s surgeries.

Please councillors you chose your platform now use it, leave the local media’s letters page to us lesser mortals who have to be content with a limit of two hundred words.

As to the subject matter, Newport Council closes off the pedestrian area at the required times, might have had something to do with the fear of litigation.

Question, if an organisation, public or private, is deemed responsible by failing to carry out it’s duties are they liable for the consequences. NHS would certainly be an example that says yes!
