I REFER to my letter ‘Rent Free Weeks’ printed in the Argus on January 11, 2018.

I contacted Newport City Homes (NCH) by first class mail on December 29 as soon as I discovered that they had wrongly taken £101.71 from my bank account for the rent free week beginning December 25, 2017.

Newport City Homes’ offices re-opened after the Christmas break on January 2 (Tuesday). Their response to me informing me of how to get a refund, was dated January 4 (Thursday), was sent by second-class mail.

My money was refunded on January 8 via my bank. On January 5, NCH sent me a trivial letter by first class mail. Having £100.71 wrongly taken from their bank account could have serious consequences for some tenants.

It is pretty obvious to me that what is important to their tenants is of little importance to NCH.

I am sure that had I been in arrears with my rent even by one week, their threatening letter to me would have been sent by first class mail or there would have been a knock on my door from a member of their income recovery team!
