WITH reference to the article on page 2 of the Argus January 12, by Ian Craig, regarding the speech by Jessica Morden headed ‘Rail must be taken by back into public ownership.’

My answer is yes and no. There was an article about a year ago stating that when the Welsh franchise currently held by Arriva Train Wales comes up for renewal, the Welsh Assembly itself should take it on and run it not for profit.

Enterprise like Welsh Water, that it be run under the title Cambrian Railways, that all carriages have grass-green lower panels and milky white upper panels and the Welsh dragon should have a place of honour at each of each carriage.

I suggest that the passenger train service be restored between Ebbw Vale and Newport and extended to Bristol and that any new carriages required be assembled by the new factory at Llanwern and that the Welsh assembly pay for the line from Cardiff to Swansea by electricity.
