RE THE letter of Mr Brian Hayes, I recall seeing a painting in our art gallery called Vandalism. It was of the Town Hall, the Lyceum Theatre and another building that I cannot recall. Is it owned by the gallery and could we see it sometime?
I attended the last concert held at the Central Hall given by the Halle orchestra under Sir John Barbirolli. He spoke at the end and, like Beecham, commented on the excellent acoustic.
There is a book by a Halle viola player, Malcolm Tillis titled Chords and Dischords. He mentions the Central Hall, but only to comment on how dreadful the toilets were!
