MR PINGEL of Duffryn Close in Bassaleg, I beg to differ... I doubt whether you have ever really come across any horses that pass your house as it is a cul-de-sac with nowhere to go at the top of a housing estate in Bassaleg, therefore your facts are inherently flawed.

A few thousand people live in Bassaleg, I am sure it was once in the countryside, perhaps over 100 years ago, but that is now a romantic ideal.

I have lived here for five years and so far have never experienced the ‘authentic farmyard smell’ you talk about.

I challenge you and your neighbours who are so in need of horse manure to take a two-minute stroll down to Pentre-Poeth as there is plenty that never gets picked up.

As for your comment regarding the lady with a broken jaw, she is not my friend, just a decent neighbour and resident of Bassaleg who deserved better.

The only good thing is that we haven’t seen the horse rider in question since.

But lets not stray from the objective, horses should remain where possible out of public way, I fear it is only a matter of time before we see a further accident.

Let’s hope it is not involved with a child or a motor vehicle next time.
