Argentina is no threat to us DEFENCE Sec Mr Hammond would like us all to know that Britain will defend its occupation of the Falkland Islands robustly if need be. Most people were united not in celebrating the anniversary of the colonial war that saved Thatcher’s political bacon, but in remembering the losses we suffered, Argentina poses no military threat and people can see that our conservative coalition is once again seeking political kudos through military adventures abroad to deflect the misery and despair their austerity policies are having here. Labour does not seem to understand the nature of imperialism. Whether the islanders are UK citizens or not is irrelevant to the issue of which country has sovereignty, they are colonial possessions gained through military conquest taken by force. I doubt the British people would stomach another wild adventure
