FOR over two years I have been writing letters pointing out the consequences for politicians who implement public spending cuts.

In the Welsh Assembly elections last year the Liberal Democrats had a drubbing at the polls. This year they avoided annihilation on Newport City Council by one vote.

While it gives me no satisfaction to see effective and dedicated community representatives lose they cannot say they were not warned of the fate for those who prop up a vicious Tory government.

Monmouth MP David Davies believes that they took a hiding in the local elections because the Conservatives were not right wing enough.

Mr Davies, your party lost because they continue to pursue an austerity agenda which is becoming more discredited by the day.

If you don’t change course and stop punishing the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in society, instead of going after those who wrecked the economy, you will face even more humiliation at the ballot box.

I personally can’t wait for your party to name the day - the sooner the better for the sake of our communities.
