TOM MCCARTHY obviously doesn’t like the fact that we are ‘not’ the purpose for the universe’s existence, that we are merely unimportant evolved primates, insignificant in the greater picture of the cosmos.

In this case, a person so self gratifying and arrogant might feel a ‘self-creating, sustaining and self destroying universe’ is sinister.

Cherry picking and misquoting the pioneers of modern science is an overused and transparent tactic of the creationist world view, it reveals a narrow, selective and motive-driven style of evasive rebuttal.

The Genesis account vs the modern science of evolution isn’t even a fair fight! The ancient and endlessly plagiarised texts bear all the hallmarks of scientifically ignorant early man, whose brains haven’t yet evolved enough to shrug off superstition and the fear of death. You may need ‘conviction’ to accept this creation myth, but you need a dearth of reasonable ‘intelligence’ to dismiss centuries of advances and ‘new’ scientific discoveries in this ‘golden era’ of human development. The ‘true’ story of our universe is more exciting, beautiful and more humbling than anything a mere antiquated essay could ever dream of. The creation myth is for literature and history, nothing more.
