AT THIS time of jubilee celebrations my memories are those of an ex-serviceman who joined the regulars in 1952 and was present at HM Queen Elizabeth’s coronation on June 2, 1953.
My regiment was one of the first to arrive in London and the last to leave, spending the first two weeks in Chelsea barrack, then an extended period under canvas in Hyde Park, about two months altogether. When off duty and going off camp No1’s had to be worn at all times.
We could go anywhere in the capital practically free of charge.
I would be grateful if any ex- servicemen from that time could contact me.
