IN THE Argus letters (May 18) Norman Jones congratulated all the non-voters in the Risca ward. He states that the recent non-vote count was a true reflection of what people think of political parties. He asserts that if more people followed this example we, ‘Could do away with all these corrupt political parties and ELECT the right person from each government position, including a real Prime Minister’. His statement that ‘A non-vote is not a wasted vote’, is a clear contradiction of all that makes sense, if there are any, in his own wishes! How does he propose to elect the right persons if all voters followed his preferred example? It seems Mr Jones is prepared to ‘pat on the back’ those people who could have voted but chose not to. I could not disagree more! If we all followed his advice, those who would use their wealth and power would rule us for evermore. This does not mean that I, along with the majority of citizens, believe we should be complacent about the present state of affairs. But surely he can see that the only way to change things is through the ballot box?
