I HAVE been a Newport Speedway supporter for many years and was extremely disappointed at the decision to demolish the Hayley Stadium in Newport.
To me, speedway is part of Newport’s history. There have been many top class riders who have donned the colours of Newport, such as Phil Crump whose son Jason Crump went on to become World Champion in 2004 and 2006, and is still top of his game.
His grandfather, the late and sadly missed Neil Street also rode for Newport and became an ambassador for speedway. Let’s not allow Newport Speedway become a statistic consigned to the history books.
