We were saddened and disappointed to see your coverage of the canopy incident at Cwmbran Shopping – ‘Bride-to-be hits out after being caught in hail storm of glass’, (South Wales Argus, Thursday, June 28).

As discussed with your reporter, everyone at Cwmbran Shopping did all they could to handle a difficult situation as quickly and safely as possible, but your coverage would lead readers to believe the incident was far more serious than it actually was, and that our staff were uninterested to the point of being rude.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

At Cwmbran we work extremely hard to ensure the safety of the public at all times, and to create a shopping environment that is pleasant and welcoming.

For your interviewee to suggest that someone from my team pushed customers out of the way and made comments about clearing up the incident quickly to make sure no-one reported it is, quite frankly, insulting.

Our actions in the wake of the accident have all been fully supported by the Torfaen Environmental Health officer, who recognised we took timely and appropriate action to deal with the situation.
