A FEW weeks ago, I was criticised by another letter writer for not supporting extra taxes to fund the health service in Wales.

I said that the existing monies were enough and should be more fairly redistributed.

Recently, BBC Wales has been running a story about a charity based in Swansea known as the All Wales Ethnic Minority Association (no, I’ve never heard of it either).

It appears that it has not only received in excess of £8,000,000 from the Welsh Assembly Government, but is also being investigated by the police and the Charities Commission for irregularities in their accounts.

This obviously raises the question, how many other obscure charities are being propped up with Welsh taxpayers’ money?

I note in the Argus of July 5 that the WAG is handing over £450,000 to fund a new football centre in Newport. Is this the same sport that boasts of oil rich Arab sheiks and Eastern European billionaires among their benefactors?

There are some people who want the WAG to have more tax-raising powers. I can only assume that they are as deluded as those feckless Assembly Members who sprinkle our cash like confetti amongst any causes that are currently in fashion.
