COUNCILLOR Dix campaigned for a supermarket development to the
south of Blackwood, which helped him get elected as county
councillor.
Lately there have been doubts by local shopkeepers in Blackwood
over these new plans. Frankly, I share their concerns.
Blackwood by then would have three food-selling supermarkets,
from Asda in the north to Iceland in the middle and then
Morrisons in the south. Also, there is a Sainsbury and Tesco
only a few miles down the road.
This new development will only increase the pressure on the
current high street shops in Blackwood.
There have been countless campaigns from other areas against
this type of development,
I would like to thank the Labour councillors who worked very
closely with the council officials and the Plaid Cymru
administration in getting a new cinema and supermarket to
Bargoed.
I have long campaigned for this type of development to take
place: I’m glad it will happen in my lifetime.
For too long, Bargoed has been ignored by Labour, because of
the in-fighting between Labour Rhymney Valley and Labour Islwyn.
Andrew Thomas Nutt, Heolddu Road, Bargoed
