TORFAEN Friends of the Earth are delighted that the Welsh
Assembly Govern-ment has announced that it is to introduce a
National Pollinator Action Plan.
Throughout this summer Torfaen FOE, in partnership with the
Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales, has campaigned to
raise awareness of this acute and devastating problem which
affects our food security.
Postcards to David Cameron to get him to implement a Bee Action
Plan have been signed by hundreds of Torfaen residents at
various local events and will be continuing at further
locations.
Free wildflower posters and packets of wildflower seeds have
been distributed to all who signed postcards.
Friends of the Earth Cymru campaigner and local groups support
worker, Bleddyn Lake says: “It’s fantastic that Wales is
taking the lead with action to safeguard our environment.
“This is great news for Wales and will hopefully also sting
David Cameron into taking action by introducing a UK Bee Action
Plan.”
Our bees are declining fast and urgently need protecting –
without them, the UK would have to spend billions of pounds
hand-pollinating many of your favourite fruit and vegetables.
Friends of the Earth and other groups will now work in
partnership with the Welsh Government in the content of the Plan.
