Andrew Penman states that the Bristol Rovers friendly was the first time that football had been played at Rodney Parade.
I understand that in 1940, the Civil Defence commandeered Somerton Park and for a while, the County played at Rodney Parade. However, they were unable to continue and they did not compete in the regionalised Football League for the remainder of the war period. Lovells Athletic were left to carry the flag for Newport. I wonder if any of your other readers have any recollections of football at Rodney Parade.
