WHILST I can understand Councillor Al-Nuaimi’s comments about the planning committee’s decision, I must say that everything points to a decision to abide by the Labour Party’s pre-election stance to oppose an incinerator.
Equally, I am somewhat dubious to the reference that party political decisions do not enter the planning arena.
From what I have read, the incinerator application met planning requirements, well surveyed and supported by officers. And lo and behold, it is rejected, possibly for the council to be responsible for the costs of a successful appeal.
Sorry, Councillor Al-Nuaimi, but it appears the decision was on political grounds or is this just a sop so that the council can say they opposed it when the appeal is successful?
