Undoubtedly the 2012 Olympics must be one of the best ever. From Ryan Giggs in football, Murray in tennis, our rowers, sailors and swimmers - every British athlete has given their best, and we should be proud of their brilliant achievements.

But most of all it is our women athletes who have shone in every sport including our golden girl, Jessica Ennis, gold medallist in the heptathlon and our cycling champions. The tremendous roar from the stadium was fully justified. Contrast our womens' achievements, their training facilities and our attitudes to those of the regimes of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Afghanistan . These countries have entered just one token woman in the games to enable them to qualify. These women have had few opportunities or facilities to train. Their compatriots endure many hardships: the threat of prison if they drive a car, forced marriages at 13, rape in marriage condoned in law. Countries with such appalling human rights records for women should have no place in the Olympics, not until their women have achieved their human rights. Some say, "Don't mix sports and politics", but remember, the black South Africans were freed from apartheid with the help of those who invaded the cricket pitch and boycotted the rugby field and eventually banned the apartheid regime from the Olympic Games. Let's do it again. Ray Davies, Pandy Road, Bedwas
