NEWPORT County AFC have two nominations in the Sky Bet League Two monthly awards for December, writes Andrew Penman.
Justin Edinburgh is up for the manager of the month award and midfielder Mike Flynn is nominated as player of the month.
Edinburgh guided County to nine points from four games – three of them away – as they moved into the play-off places in their first season back in the league.
His side beat high-flying Chesterfield 3-2 at Rodney Parade before winning at Portsmouth and Wycombe Wanderers.
They ended the month with a 1-0 defeat at Burton Albion and were also beaten 2-1 at home by Northampton Town on Saturday.
But Football League sponsors Sky Bet say the nomination comes after a successful month “proved due reward for Edinburgh’s positive tactics as his adventurous side chase victories.”
The Exiles boss is up against Burton Albion’s Gary Rowett, who masterminded his side’s 1-0 victory over County on December 29.
Also up for the award are Russ Wilcox of Scunthorpe United, in the month in which his status was upgraded from caretaker to permanent manager, and Cheltenham Town boss Mark Yates.
Flynn is rewarded for his three goals in December, two in the win at Portsmouth and the solitary striker at Wycombe Wanderers on Boxing Day.
He is up against Scunthorpe veteran Deon Burton, Tom Nicholls of Exeter City and AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper
Ross Worner.
All winners will be announced on Friday.
